Our baby-making story - Chronology of events
2 Jan 09 - Married my one and only true love, Dear Hubbie (DH) after more than 4 years of LDR.
Enjoyed free sex without contraception with DH for a year.
Jan 10 - Started charting my cycle and discovered that my cycle was every 35 - 45 days.
When to see my 1st O&G (who confirmed that I had PCOS 8 years ago) for my first pap smear. She gave me a prescription for 3 cycles of clomid and wished me all the best.
Took my first cycle of clomid and made some attempts with DH. Decided not to repeat clomid as I was not comfortable with the lack of instructions and no monitoring by O&G.
Jan - March 11 - Attempted natural conception for two cycles using the ovulation kit but failed to conceive.
April 11 - Went to see 2nd O&G for a second opinion. He advised me to skip the clomid and suggested that he manipulated my cycle by using Gonal-F to enlarge my follicles and then to induce ovulation. Started my first cycle on Gonal-F. My O&G wanted to target for two healthy eggs to be released during ovulation. Unfortunately, only one egg was released during ovulation and I got my period 14 days later.
May 11 - 2nd cycle on Gonal-F. Unfortunately, no eggs were released during ovulation and I got my period 14 days later. My O&G recommended that we consider proceeding directly to IVF instead wasting time attempting IUI. Discussed with DH and we agreed to start IVF in Dec after my USA trip in September.
July 11 - Attempted natural conception again using the ovulation kit. Started staining two weeks later but no period. Did a pregnancy test and voila....got a BFP. Unfortunately, O&G could only detect an irregular sac and we were not able to detect a heartbeat during follow up appointments.
7 Sept 11 - D&C was carried out. O&G said that at least we now know that I can get pregnant, i.e. I don't have blocked fallopian tubs, so he advised that we consider doing induced ovulation again instead of proceeding to IVF.
Dec 11 - My cycle started again and since it has been almost 3 months since my D&C, DH and I decided to continue our baby-making story. This time, I decided to consult a fertility doctor so that in case induced ovulation fails and we have to proceed to IVF, we don't have to change doctors again. Our new fertility doctor started me on daily Gonal-F injections.
Jan 11 - 3rd cycle on Gonal-F, BFP on my pregnancy test. Stomach started bloating severely and was diagnosed with OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome).
11- 20 Jan 11 - Admitted into hospital for moderate OHSS which became severe. Scan revealed triplets!!! Thankfully, recovered!
21 Jan - Feb 11 - Started staining which lead to heavy bleeding and blood clots. Fertility doctor put me on progrestrone and bedrest. The babies fought it out and survived!
7 May 11 - sentenced to hospital bedrest at 20 weeks by our new FM Specialist/Perinatologist for observation until delivery date.
